One of Council’s functions is to enforce forest practices standards in accordance with regulations. A key component is the annual inspection program that provides ongoing assessment of owners’ compliance with the private managed forest land legislation. Potential noncompliance identified by inspectors are followed up with further field review and investigation where warranted.
The inspection program is structured to meet Council’s policy objective of inspecting each managed forest at least once every 5 years. A formal inspection program has been carried out each year since 2007. Site inspections and field assessments may also be carried out as a result of an owner’s self-reported slide or environmental incident, as a result of public or stakeholder enquiry or complaint, or for managed forest land that is entering or leaving the program.

2022 Inspection Program
In 2022, there were 285 managed forests in the program, encompassing 805,000 hectares across the province. There were 50 managed forests inspected: 36 located on the coast and 14 in the interior. The inspection program encompassed 18% of managed forests in the program and continued to meet Council policy to inspect all managed forests at least once every five years. 2021 Inspection Program
In 2021, there were 281 managed forests in the program, encompassing 805,300 hectares across the province. There were 62 managed forests inspected: 41 located on the coast and 21 in the interior. The inspection program encompassed 22% of managed forests in the program and continued to meet Council policy to inspect all managed forests at least once every five years.
